CurriculumLearning is at the heart of what we do. The curriculum is carefully structured and planned to provide progression within subjects and yet continuity of approach. We teach the curriculum in many ways and endeavour to ensure that the teaching engages the minds of all the children. The school follows the National Curriculum for English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art, ICT, PE, Music, and the Hampshire syllabus for RE. For the very young there is an emphasis on activity-based learning and as children move through the school, there is a balance of group and class work, research and independent tasks. Teachers here strive to make learning interesting by providing stimulating resources and a wide range of experiences. We expect children to match this commitment with effort and the desire to do their best. We aim to involve the children in the responsibility for their own learning within a clear framework of high expectation and careful monitoring. Assessment is an integral part of our teaching so that we can give feedback to both children and parents. Teachers carefully plan their teaching to take account of individual children's needs and adapt tasks to increase the challenge, to consolidate previous learning or to provide support when needed. |
